In a groundbreaking cross-border project, Nordic public service journalists exposed the names and faces of over 20 Russian spies at embassies in Scandinavia. By combining intelligence sources and leaked Russian databases, the project exposed the shadow war by Putin's agents, ranging from industrial espionage to dark vessel-surveillance of critical infrastructure at sea.

Russia deports HIV positive migrants and many gay people fear getting tested because of homophobia

Dilovar moved to Russia from Tajikistan a decade ago hoping for a better life but he contracted HIV and now lives with the threat of deportation and unable to access proper medical care.

Russia is among 19 states that deport HIV positive non-nationals, along with Egypt, Malaysia and Singapore, according to UNAIDS, the United Nations' HIV/AIDS program, which describes such laws as stigmatising and a violation of human rights.

China makes uranium bargain in Russia's Far East

From Russia’s Far East, Russian nuclear fuel is exported to the west. Russia's largest uranium mine is located in the previously closed military city Krasnokamensk. Now Russia wants to open the mining district to investors from China - despite previous international alarms about environmental pollution in the region.

Mikhail Mishustin confirmed as Russian prime minister amid questions over property portfolio

NEWS › The Telegraph

Russia’s parliament approved a former tax chief as the country’s new prime minister the day after Vladimir Putin proposed sweeping constitutional changes, amid questions over his $10 million (£7.7m) property portfolio.

Mikhail Mishustin, 53, was voted in as Russia media and opposition politicians raised questions about his lavish property and his wife’s income.

Mr Mishustin was nominated for prime minister on Wednesday after Dmitry Medvedev, the outgoing premier, announced a surprise resignation, which he said was necessary to let Mr Putin see through the constitutional changes that he floated several hours earlier.
